Wang du
Wang Du lives and works in Paris. After the riots on Tianan men square in 1989, he left China. Wang Du challenges the established criteria in art, which are subjective in essence. He chooses trivial and lightly challenging images from the mass-media and transforms them in three-dimensional sculptures. These installations, combinations of sculpture and newsclips, are humorous in exaggerations of the abnormal and banalities. Headlines as 'Man becomes famous, after his wife cuts of his penis' and 'Couple wins car with a kissing-record of several days in a kissing-competition', lowers the level even more. After laughing, embarrassment takes over. Who fools who? Daily messages become worldnews. What is important, what is real, what are today's values?
