“Action and enaction in sensorimotor approaches to perception”

The idea that perception is tightly connected to action is a central idea in approaches to perception that have been called 'sensorimotor' (o'Regan and Noë) or 'enactive' (Noë).
There are different ways to unpack this link between perception and action, however, which correspond to different philosophical agendas.
I will distinguish a scientific project of seeing perception as necessarily involving action from an philosophical enactive project which which, so I argue, should be seen as a way to argue that the 'hard problem of consciousness' is an impossible problem which should be abandoned rather than solved. Disentangling these two aspects of the sensorimotor project makes it much more valuable to pursue, both as science and as philosophy, so I will propose.
