Gaspar Noé, réalisateur de Seul contre tous et Irréversible, vient de lâcher sur la Toile la bande-annonce de son nouvel ovni cinématographique, Enter the Void.

Fasciné par 2001 : l'Odyssée de l'espace de Stanley Kubrick depuis sa prime enfance, Gaspar Noé, réalisateur iconoclaste de Seul contre tous et Irréversible, a toujours désiré réaliser son propre "trip" cinématographique. C'est désormais chose faite avec Enter the Void, présenté par son auteur comme un mélodrame psychédélique. Un an tout juste après sa présentation houleuse au Festival de Cannes 2009, son troisième long-métrage sort enfin en salles le 5 mai prochain.

L'histoire de ce film à la construction narrative labyrinthique ? Oscar (Nathaniel Brown) et sa soeur Linda (Paz de la Huerta) habitent depuis peu à Tokyo. Oscar survit de petits deals de drogue, alors que Linda est stripteaseuse dans une boite de nuit. Un soir, lors d'une descente de police, Oscar est touché par une balle. Tandis qu'il agonise, son esprit fidèle à la promesse faite à sa soeur de ne jamais l'abandonner, refuse de quitter le monde des vivants. Son esprit se met alors à errer dans la ville et ses visions deviennent de plus en plus chaotiques et cauchemardesques. Passé, présent et futur se mélangent dans un maelstrom hallucinatoire...

Nathaniel Brown and Paz de la Huerta are the stars of Gasper Noe's latest foray into the trippy and disturbing in "Enter the Void." The film debuted at Cannes this week and tells the story of a dead drug dealer who looks over his sister as she grieves in the neon lit world of Tokyo. I've seen his last two films, "Irreversible" and "I Stand Alone", both of which are deeply unsettling films, but at least are consistent in their shocking tone and artful construction. Manohla Dargis of The New York Times had this to say about "Enter the Void":

What largely distinguishes it, beyond the stunning cinematography, is that this is the work of an artist who’s trying to show us something we haven’t seen before, even while he liberally samples images and ideas from Stanley Kubrick and the entirety of American avant-garde cinema. The grungy milieu and calculated shocks might have been designed to make you flee — even while your attention is tethered to the camera — but, really, these aren’t the point. The point is the filmmaking.
